MyGekoGear OwlScout Front and Cabin 1080p DashCam Review

It’s never a bad idea to have a dashcam mounted in your car – you never know when you’ll need footage from your windshield. Meet MyGekoGear OwlScout Dual dashCam, this dual camera captures 1080p Full HD video of both the road and the inside of a vehicle.
MyGekoGear is trying to bring to the market quality products at reasonable prices.

Interesting design

You’re basically getting two cameras that simultaneously capture video of the road and the inside of your car. Front, records Full HD video of anything that happens in front of the car, while the cabin camera, records the inside the vehicle.

Design && Features

OwlScout design is quite similar to other dashcams on the market,
it has a 2.7-inch LCD display, 6 buttons that you can press and it covered by soft-touch rubber coating that makes it look like a premium class dashcam.

Big 2.7 LCD screen
Sony Exmor sensor and can record with a 1080P + 1080P 30FPS resolution.

The dashcam is connected to the windshield using the traditional suction-cup mount, it’s my least favorite mount but I can’t imagine placing this kind of dashcam straight on the windshield.

The dashcam camera uses a Sony Exmor sensor and can record with a 1080P + 1080P 30FPS resolution.
The cabin camera is also a full HD camera that integrates infrared night vision technology to record in-cabin events more clearly in low light situations.

Both the cameras have had a 145-degree viewing angle that is more than enough to capture anything outside or in the cabin.
The cabin cam can be twisted to the best angle of your choosing.
It’s also equipped with GPS in case you want to track your current speed and your routes.

Like many other dashcams, the OwlScout has Wifi, users can use the myGEKOgear app to view, playback, and transfer their videos to compatible with iOS and Android smartphones.

Setup

Installing the OwlScout won’t require anything special skill set, just find the right spot on your windshield and your good to go.
I decided to mount it, behind the rear mirror and I have used the USB charging cable with my own 2 USB port car charger. No way I could have to hide it because it’s very short so I left it hanging. I would definitely love to see a hard-wiring kit or a power cable that connects to the OBDII port. Even though it has a built-in Li-ion battery, it won’t produce a lot of working time.

Wont be able to hide due to in cabin video recording

The microSD card is already placed in the OwlScout dashcam and the last thing you need to do is adjust the cabin camera. You can always use the app to download videos or change the dashcam settings.

Performance

The video quality during the day was quite good. Cars and landmarks are easily visible and are quite clear. I have no complaints about the video quality during the day.

Daytime video is decent and if you pause the video you could see plate numbers
In cabin video

I didn’t use it at night because my windshield mount broke and I had no way to mount it. I will test the night video quality after I get a new mount.

My Opinion

very interesting dashcam

OwlScout is a very interesting dashcam that has good features. If you’re looking for a dashcam that records good quality videos and also
records in-cabin events, I would definitely consider OwlScout.
Yes, you’re not getting all the features that high-end dashcam offers but you also not paying for them. Basically it does everything it’s supposed to do.
