Cats are wonderful pets but If there was one drawback in owning a cat, that would be cleaning the litter box. To say the least, it’s not fun at all, Its smelly, inconvenient and can be time-consuming at times. For some, it can even be dangerous, when cleaning the litter box you can accidentally inhale the litter particles that fly around, that’s pretty dangerous, especially if you are pregnant.
I have 2 wonderful cats named Mash && Lisa and I think I have found the coolest and most convenient way to take care of their toilet needs.
What Is It?
The Litter-Robot 3 Connect is an automated litter box that makes the way you handle your cat’s waste simpler, faster, and much cleaner.
All you need to do is:
- fill up the Litter-Robot with small clumping litter and put a waste bag in the dedicated compartment
- Your cat(s) does his/their business
The Litter-Robot takes care of (almost) everything: sifts away the pee and poop and keeps you informed of the waste level (they even have an app for that!) - When the Litter-Robot is full, it performs a cleaning cycle and drops the waste into a dedicated bag.
- All you have to do is take the bag out and replace it with a new one.
For some, it sounds like science fiction but in reality, it’s a product that been around for quite sometime. Keep reading to discover all its fancy features!
How Does the Litter-Robot 3 Connect Work?
When its time for your cat to go, they enter the Litter-Robot, a “cat sensor” is activated( unless they weigh less than 5 lbs). Thanks to the wight sensor the robot knows that your cat is in or out.
When your cat jumps out, it triggers a new cycle that starts after a set wait time that you can change using the app (3, 7 or 15 minutes). Mine is always on 15 because I don’t want it to cycle too much(a little bit noisy).
The Cleaning Process
The capsule/globe rotates to filter the waste clumps from the clean litter. This is why it’s important to use clumping litter for the Litter-Robot. When the Litter-Robot rotates and reaches the dump position, the waste slides into the waste drawer. It then rotates back around to fill itself with the leftover clean litter. The clean cycle takes around 2 minutes to complete.

The First Impression of the Litter-Robot and How Mashka && Lisa Reacted
My first impression was WOW, what a hough box, even the girls in the post office was shocked as they never saw so large package coming in.
Both cats have been quite shocked and never saw anything like that before.
They didn’t know at the time, that it’s their new super high tech litter-box.
I was a bit concerned that my cats would be scared and won’t even come near the litter-box, but I was wrong. Mashka had no issues and didn’t require anything from my side when she wanted to go, she jumped into and did her thing. On the other hand, Lisa required guidance.
All the long she tried to go to the old litter box but the door to that room was closes. So she just sat near the door and waited. a couple of times I took her to the litter robot and waited with no luck. At the end of the day, I took her one last time and the poor girl wanted to go so badly that she could hold it and she did her thing and everyone was happy.
Setting Up
The set up is really straight forward. Just take it out of the box, fill it with litter, Put the garbage bag, power it and your go-to go!
The control panel is located on the right side and has 4 buttons(power, Cycle, empty, reset) and 3 light indicators(ready, cycling, timing).
Pressing the cycle button, the litter robot will perform a full cleaning cycle manually. The empty button is used when we want to change all the litter. Once we pressed the empty button, all the litter will fall down to the garbitch bag and the litter robot is ready for some fresh litter.
On the front we have a little rubber mat, it used as a sep for the cat to climb down or up.
When going down it should collect the litter that got stuck in their paws.
In reality, some cats don’t use it when they jump off and all the litter is on the flower( this is true in my case with Mashka).
Inside the litter robot is located the night light that will turn on at night.
If you don’t like it for some reason you can always disable it from the app.
Waste level Monitoring
When the Litter-Robot is full, a flashing blue light will signal it’s time to empty the waste. If you using the Litter-Robot connect you will able remotely monitor its current status via your phone! With this specially designed app, you can.
Note: some users say all the poop/used litter falls into one place in the drawer and the litter says it’s full quite quickly, in my case, it didn’t really happen although most of the time it does fall into one spot, at the end everything gets pushed and spread across the drawer.
The Litter Robot Connect 3 App
The litter robot app can be download from the google/apple store and its quite easy to use. Im not going to go through all the app features they are very straight forward and easy to use.
Control waste level: The Litter-Robot notifies you when the waste drawer is full and you will get notified via App.
Sleep Mode: The 8-hour sleep mode stops the unit from cycling during the night.
Automatic Night Light: The automatic night light helps elderly cats during night time visits.
Adjustable Cycle Timer: Choose a 3, 7, or 15-minute delay before the unit cycles
Control Panel Lockout:Lock out all button functions on the control panel.
How Easy is Cleaning it up?
Compared to the old days of the traditional litter box, cleaning the litter robot is easy as it comes. Pull out the waste drawer, take the bag out and throw it away. Replace the bag, push the drawer back in and you are done!
One thing I have to mention, it will smell very bad when you open the drawer, remember we got poop and pee lying in a bag for several days (in my case), my advice, take a breath and get to it.
If your cat has and sensitive stomach you will need to clean it more frequently. To be honest, for the past 8 months a cleaned it 2-3 days. The inside of the globe has no electronic components besides the night light so it’s easy to clean.
Things I would Change:
- The price is very high and if you’re located outside the USA it can cost a lot more
- Would love to see a night light turned on/off by motion detection because I don’t really like it’s on all the time.
- the litter robot won’t “See” cats under 5lbs and basically won’t cycle, one of my cats is less than 5 labs and most times the litter robots don’t see her when she does her needs.
- Making the sleeping time more than 8 hours
- A bit noisy and I would recommend placing it far from the room you sleep in.

Great for Travel
If you’re a frequent traveler and you own a cat/cats, the Litter-Robot 3 Connect is the perfect solution!
When it comes to traveling, as a pet owner it’s a big issue because most people don’t travel with their pets and the lucky once have friends and family that can take care of their cats while they are away.
What if it’s not the case?
This is why the Litter-Robot is an amazing solution for this problem and can let you travel for 7-12 days without worrying if your cat has a clean litter box! My Opinion
I just want to start by saying, I cannot be more relieved to not have to scoop out poop and pee anymore! Forget about playing with poop every day, the bad smell, and waiting for your cat to use the litter box just to clean it.
Let the litter robot connect 3 do the work for you and trust me you and your cat will be happy like you never been before! Yes, it’s pricy but trust me it will be worth any penny and its great investment that will pay off in time.
I have been using the litter robot for more than 7 months and I didn’t have any serious problems( had cycling errors couple of times), I even left my cats home alone for more than 10 days when I had to travel.
Overall I do recommend this amazing machine to anyone who wants to forget about the classic litter boxes and are willing to invest some money to buy it!
