PULUZ Mini Photo Studio Lighting Box Review

A couple of months ago I wanted to step-up my product review shots and I decided to buy a cheap Lightbox and overall in quite happy with what I bought. There are many light-boxes on the market, most of them look the same and the only difference in the brand name. I decided to get the Puluz Mini Photo Studio Lighting Box.

The Puluz is a portable folding Photography Lightbox that you can take detailed photographs of small objects. A perfect budget lightbox that can be used on the go or basically anywhere you have a USB port.

What’s in the Box?

  • Main Studio Box(with 2 LED panels)
  • Round PVC Plate
  • Soft Bag
  • 6 x EVA Backdrops(6 different colors)
  • Micro USB Cable
  • User Manual

Design & Features

The Puluz lightbox is designed for small photography items and with its help, you will be able to take quality pictures anywhere in minutes, thanks to a portable folding snap button structure design. You have an option to pick from 6 backgrounds(Black, White, Orange, Red, Green, Blue), and enjoy a 2 built-in LED panel lights and USB cable(you will need a USB charger, power bank, or USB hub to power it).

After unpacking and setting this up, I have to say that it’s definitely worth the money. But please, it can’t compete with light boxes that are several times more expensive and have better lighting. The 6 color backdrops have a VERY noticeable texture to them, which can be spotted on some photos. The hatch on the top is a nice feature and basically your getting another angle you can take photos with.

The 2 led strips are located on the top on both sides and are always in the same place. This is one of the things that aren’t really comfortable as sometimes I like being able to move my lights around to highlight different angles.

The USB connections are quite fragile and I would definitely want to see something more stable.

For the photography tests, I used my Nikkon d5100. The first two photos were taken using the white background, and as you can see, the pictures are clear.

The second two photographs were taken with the yellow background, and were also quite clear.

My Opinion

Let us face it, it’s not a big lightbox where you can take photos of the big item. I’m usually using the Puluz lightbox when I need to photograph small objects or products, this Lightbox is a nice alternative to using my larger Lightbox. It is very quick and easy to set up, and very portable. Only time will tell whether or not it will endure the constant folding and unfolding, and whether or not the exposed micro USB port will succumb to regular use. I would like to see a longer micro USB cable and a wall adapter.
Another thing I would like to see is added protection for the USB ports as they seem to be a little fragile.
