Scanmarker Air Review

We all used scanners or at least we used them at some point in our lives.
Its the first time I’m using a pen looking like scanners and I absolutely love the idea. You can quickly take clippings of any print media and use it for later access. Let’s check this interesting gadget and see what it can do as I’m really triggered.

Whats in the box?

  • Scanmarker Air
  • USB Cable
  • Bluetooth Dongle
  • User Manual
  • Scanmarker Air bag

Design and Features

When I first opened the box, I noticed how big it was. Its size is comparable to that of a marker. The cap pops off very easily, when it’s removed, you will see a clear glass tip. The tip is square and protrudes at a slight angle from the base.

By dragging it across the page, just like you would use a highlighter, Scanmarker Air is able to scan the words and convert them into editable text that can be accessed from any computer, smartphone tablet.

Before I started using the Scanmarker Air, we took a minute to familiarize ourselves with the layout. The plastic edges are smooth but easy to grip. We found that it was easiest to hold between our thumb and index finger, just like a regular highlighter.

There are two LEDs on the face of the device. one closest to your hand indicates an active Bluetooth connection, one next to it illuminates when the battery gets low. I really like the orange tip and the logo is quite simple.

There are a couple of ways you can connect to Scanmarker Air. First, one is via USB, just plug the Micro USB end into the pen, and the other end into your computer. The second one is via Bluetooth, just pair and go. But if you’re using a computer that doesn’t have Bluetooth, the included dongle works just as well.

After I have connected and installed the free software. Just like using a highlighter, you place the guide on a page and start sliding it across. The text appeared on my screen almost instantly.

The Scanmarker Air can handle any font up to 22pt. This means that with standard text, you can often fit two lines within the guide. As long as both lines are completely enclosed, you can scan two lines at a time.

The battery life is quite good, and I used it for more than 20 hours. The Scanmarker Air is much more than just a marker that scans. You can have it read text aloud to you as you move it over the page.

It has the ability to translate the text you are reading. It supports over 40 different languages and can either read the translated text to you or type out the translated document on your computer.

My Opinion

Scanmarker Air is a really interesting gadget that brings a brand-new concept to life. It isn’t the first of its kind, as several other companies have also created similar handheld scanners. But Scanmarker Air looks like a product that is ready for the masses( not like all the other similar handheld scanners).

I really like the idea and functions of the Scanmarker Air as it does everything it supposed to do and more! I definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking to scan partial documents as they read, or digitally store excerpts for later access.
