Sofirn SP33 v3 Flashlight Review

I love flashlights and you cannot have too many of them because you never know when you need one. They are used in many environments and in different situations but for the most part when we encounter low light situations.

Today I’m reviewing the Sofirn SP33 v3 flashlight, It’s my second flashlight from Sofin but the first one I’m writing a review on( personal experience as a simple user).

What’s in the Box?

The first thing I have noticed, Sofin updated their packing with a new fresh look. In my opinion, they made the right call, the new box looks more relevant and the orange colors make it more interesting. Like most times, the post office managed to damage the box, but its something I’m used to.

Sofirn SP33 v3 Flashlight
  • SP33 v3 flashlight
  • Sofirn-branded 5500mAh 26650 cell
  • A bag with a lanyard and some spare o-rings
  • User’s manual
  • USB-A to USB-C cable
  • 18650 to 26650 tube
  • Blinkies: Strobe

Design and Features

I have received the SP33 v3, its the 3rd generation of the SP33.
The SP33 build quality is very similar to their other flashlights, very smooth, esthetic, and doesn’t feel heavy at all. Good, and solid grip that costs just about right.

The flashlight can be dismantled into 3 parts.

Starting at the bottom, we have an e-switch light tail cap: an aluminum piece with a spring on the inside. The spring in the tail cap is gold plated.

Thanks to the two raised bits on the end, the flashlight can tail stand.

The body of the tube is reversible.

The head is made out of one piece of aluminum and what looks like a stainless steel bezel and a gold plated spring located on the driver.

A switch on one side of the head controls all the headlight functions.

The reflector is silverly peeled and contains an XHP50.2 LED.

The side switch has an light that indicates the battery status. Upon turn-on, the switch will light for a few seconds and show either blue, red, or flashing red. Blue color means it’s above 3.6V voltage, red means it’s between 3V and 3.6V, and flashing red means it’s below 3V. When it’s below 3V, the indicator light flashes constantly.

Charging and Battery

The Sofirn flashlight came with a 26650 Li-ion 3.7v 5500 mAh Sofirn branded battery but can use a 18650 battery with the supplied adapter. It charges the included 26650 battery for around 5 hours from a depleted battery. I think it’s better to use the 26650 due to the greatly increased runtime available.

Charging will be done using the included USB-C cable (USB-A to USB-C,), and should not present any problems, simply pop out the charging port protection and plug it into a power source.

When charging, the side indicator LED blinks red.

When charging is complete, the indicator LED turns solid blue

Modes

The SP33 V3 has two mode groups: Stepped and Ramping. You change between these two modes by quadruple clicking when the light is on.

  • Both mode options are single-click on/off
  • Direct access to low from off (by hold-for-on) (and can then ramp up)
  • Direct access to turbo from off (by double click)
  • From off, electronic lockout with four clicks
  • While in a lockout, momentary low mode
  • Strobe mode is accessible via a triple-click

If you are looking for smaller flashlights, be sure to check my review of the Rovyvon Aurora A3 Pro, a very cool small flashlight.

My Opinion

I’m, not an expert when it comes to flashlights, and this is purely my own opinion and experience. To me, a flashlight needs to have a good light, steady battery life, and have a decent price. Of course, it depends on its main use, but those are the 3 main parameters I’m looking for in a flashlight. The Sofirn SP33 flashlight looks great, build quality is very good, produces very good light( Up to 3500 lumens), decent battery life, and a good price.

If you are looking for a budget-friendly flashlight that looks good and performs well, The Sofirn SP33 flashlight is something you need to look at.
